Sacred Passage End-of-Life Doula
My work as an end-of-life doula compliments my vocation as a hospice nurse. I feel called to fill a gap that I perceive exists in traditional hospice nursing by providing education, conscious touch, and rituals for end-of-life that support those dying, their loved ones, and those caring for them.
As a hospice nurse and end-of-life doula I am passionate about restoring "dying", the final act of living, to its natural and sacred right of passage. Dying is a natural part of the human experience and is not a medical event. When it is normalized as part of the human journey it can be met with acceptance and care. It then has the potential to be a beautiful and unifying experience for both the dying as well as those who love and care for them.
The sacred ceremony, what I refer to as the Releasing Ritual , has been created both for those who have family and friends present during the dying process as well as those who do not. All services have as their aim to honor the dignity of each person while assisting them in letting go of this world and entering into the next.
The intention of my work is to:
– provide presence to the dying through ceremony and ritual
– provide loving, healing touch to our elderly population
– reduce fear and anxiety of those caring for the dying
